Dr Roy Bennett

Roy graduated from Liverpool University Dental School in 1987. He is a Fellow of the  College General Dentistry  &  Royal Society Medicine and has a  Diploma in Dental Sciences from Liverpool University (2008). Practising privately in primary care since 1995. Senior Clinical Adviser for UKSedation. During his career he has worked part-time in NHS hospital special care dentistry for 15 years.  

Roy works closely with a sedation team including consultant and medical anaesthetists, clinical psychologists & therapists offering holistic care to his referral patients. He is committed to the highest standards of clinical care and to the ongoing process of postgraduate education. He has a special interest in the care of anxious patients, utilising inhalation/basic & advanced IV Sedation or hypnotherapy. With his team he has lectured and delivered sedation training and mentoring to dental teams across the UK over the last 15 years. IACSD accredited since 2015 to teach and mentor beginners/refreshers in IV sedation.

Dr Mike Winston

BDS MB BChir FDSRCS(Ed) PG Cert TLHP IACSD Accredited Trainer / Supervisor GDC Reg No. 55250

Mike graduated from Birmingham Dental School in 1981 and Cambridge School of Medicine in 1993. He has worked in General Dental Practice, Medicine & Surgery, A+E OMFS and as a Senior Lecturer for the PGDip/MSc Oral Surgery at UCLAN.

Mike has a special interest in anxiety management for dental patients. He Completed training in IV sedation in 1997 at Liverpool University and is an IACSD accredited trainer/supervisor.

Alan Ralfs

Advanced Nurse Practitioner Trainer

Alan has been a nurse in the NHS for over 20 years, working in acute hospitals and community settings.

He currently divides his time between working as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in two busy A&E departments and teaching for Heartbeat Training. This includes providing courses on Dental Medical Emergencies and Life Support.

In addition to these roles, Alan is also a qualified instructor for ALS, ILS, PILS, GIC ( Resuscitation Council UK ) , PLS and APLS courses.

Dr Rahul Sharma

BDS MFDS RCS Ed PG Cert IV Sedation MSc Dental Implantology Sedation Lecturer and Mentor GDC Reg No. 151299

Rahul qualified from Liverpool University in 2008. He completed vocational training in Liverpool before undertaking advanced Oral Surgery training from a number of renowned hospitals post-graduation. During this time he gained his MFDS qualification and Certificate in Conscious Sedation. Currently he works between hospital and private practice.

He has been recognised with a Special Interest in Oral Surgery and Implantology.

More recently, Rahul has qualified with a Master’s Degree in Dental Implantology at the University of Manchester. He uses the Straumann Dental Implant System and keeps up-to-date with new and evidence based techniques both nationally and internationally.

Dr Hannah McKinnon

Dental Surgeon (BDS) from Birmingham University Sedation Lecturer and Mentor GDC Reg No. 85526

She has worked in both general dental practice and hospital based surgical dentistry since qualification in 2005. Hannah has a special interest in oral surgery and sedation (use of medicines to safely relax and calm patients for a dental procedure).

After her initial surgical training as Junior Doctor at University Hospital Birmingham, Hannah became a staff grade in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She worked alongside leading OMFS consultants in military trauma and head and neck cancer clinics while running her own oral surgery list.

She also mentored newly qualified dentists and doctors. During this time, Hannah completed her MFDS qualification to become a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.

Vanessa Cowell

Vanessa started dental nursing in 1987 and gained her NEBDN national certificate in 2002. In the same year she undertook her formal training in Conscious Sedation qualifying in 2003 and enjoyed working in practice until 2005.

After spending time at home with her young family Vanessa changed direction and undertook her training to become a dental nurse assessor gaining her A1 award in 2009. As an adjunct to her training Vanessa also undertook a level 3 qualification in health and social care which has helped her wider understanding of non clinical requirements, CQC and safeguarding regulations.

Vanessa has worked closely with Dr Roy Bennett and Mellow Dental on their sedation training courses.
